Legal English Program

Brooklyn Law School’s new Legal Language Institute was established in recognition that the globalized legal community conducts business in many languages and requires an understanding of different legal cultures. The Institute’s educational programs will present opportunities for lawyers and students from abroad to sharpen their mastery of the language of American legal discourse. It will also give students the opportunity to study the legal culture and language of other countries.

The Institute will launch its educational activities with an intensive Legal English program, to be offered each July (see below). In the near future, the Institute will expand its activities to include courses for U.S. and foreign lawyers in the legal terminology and concepts of other legal languages, including German, Spanish, French, Russian, and Chinese. These courses will be open to BLS students and to members of the legal and business communities who are interested in honing their skills in the language and law of other legal cultures.... [-]

JD Program

Brooklyn Law School is the first institution in the New York metropolitan area to enable students to earn a J.D. in 2 years, and the only law school in the area to offer a range of flexible 2-, 2.5-, 3-, 3.5- or 4-year options to adapt to all prospective students’ needs. These options include:

Across all options, students have the flexibility to choose their preferred time frame. For example, candidates may apply to either the 2- or 3-year programs, or to both. Students may also extend their program by a semester or more, or – for those in the 3- or 4-year programs – graduate one semester early.... [-]

LL.M. for Internationally Trained Lawyers

Our program is designed to meet the New York Court of Appeals requirements for foreign-trained lawyers who wish to sit for the New York State bar exam. Through a complement of courses and pedagogy that focuses on the specific academic needs of those with legal training from abroad, Brooklyn Law School has created a program that will help its graduates become more effective and confident transnational lawyers.

Our program also facilitates specialized study in a number of areas, including business law, intellectual property law, and refugee and immigration law. While these three specializations draw on Brooklyn Law School's academic strengths, the Law School can also accommodate tailored study plans for those students who wish to explore other areas of the law....
