Introduction
The study program "Business and Environmental Law" (LLB) provides students with in-depth knowledge in the field of business and environmental law as well as business administration content.
Students acquire the necessary specialist and interdisciplinary skills in the fields of law and economics to answer complex questions relating to commercial, environmental, and energy law in the context of sustainability goals.
They have a critical understanding of the most important theories and can recognize problems, develop solutions, and implement state-of-the-art solutions. The program also enables students to discuss legal issues and their solutions with experts and non-specialists and to defend solutions to problems with arguments. Self-organization and the ability to work in a team play a major role here - especially in an interdisciplinary context. This enables students to assess their abilities and to independently reflect on their capacities to organize and make decisions and to use these under supervision.
Overall, the degree program in Business and Environmental Law is therefore an attractive alternative to the "traditional" law degree program at universities.
The program is supplemented by additional qualifications - and this is what distinguishes it from “traditional” law studies at universities - such as the teaching of business management skills, which are essential for understanding business law. In addition, there is thorough foreign language training that takes account of the international nature of business life and the teaching of further key qualifications through communication training, presentations, group work, and tutorials. The foreign language training can be supplemented by the acquisition of an "International Law" certificate. Furthermore, it is possible to spend a semester abroad at one of our partner schools or to participate in (international) practice-related projects.

Rankings
For many years, the Environmental Campus has consistently been recognized for its special profile in sustainability. The German government, UNESCO, and many other organizations have already honoured us with important prizes and awards. We are very proud of this. Here are some examples of recent awards:
CHE 2023: The degree programmes in the Department of Environmental Economics/Environmental Law (UW/UR) achieved impressive results in the latest CHE ranking. Overall, the degree programmes in Environmental and Business Administration, Business and Environmental Law and the international Bachelor's degree programme in Sustainable Business and Technology at the department achieved top rankings fifteen times.
GreenMetric Ranking 2023: The Environmental Campus Birkenfeld takes an outstanding third place in a global comparison of 1,183 participating universities from 85 countries that took part in the renowned UI GreenMetric Ranking 2023. Klaus Helling, Sustainability Officer at the Environmental Campus, summarises the top position succinctly: "The UI GreenMetric Ranking is comparable to the Olympic Games or a world championship in sport. The Environmental Campus comes third in the sustainability world championship for universities. We have worked hard for many years, are number 1 in Germany and have firmly established ourselves among the world leaders - now we have been rewarded with the bronze medal!"

Career Opportunities
Career opportunities for graduates include working for larger national and international companies, management consultancies, tax consultancies, and insurance companies. Small and medium-sized companies without their in-house lawyers can also benefit from the dual qualification of business lawyers.
Further career opportunities are offered by public administrations and companies, associations, and expert offices that require economic as well as environmental, energy, and climate law experience.
With its interdisciplinary and practice-oriented training, the degree program in Business and Environmental Law closes a gap in the labor market and represents an attractive alternative to a pure law degree at a university.
