The globalization of commerce makes it extremely useful, if not essential, for anyone wishing to practice commercial law to study it from an international and comparative perspective. The huge growth in the importance of multinational corporations, and countries such as China and the Gulf states, makes it equally useful to study such corporations and countries as well. SOAS has a unique concentration of modules in this area, taught by experts who combine experience in legal practice and consulting with an academic scholarship. Many of those modules are equally useful for people wishing to study other areas of law, such as human rights, environmental law, Chinese law and Islamic law, as their main focus.... [-]

European Master in Law and Economics (EMLE)

This European Master in Law and Economics (EMLE) programme offers the unique opportunity for interdisciplinary studies of law and economics at two or even three European and Non-European universities. Each partner university awards a Master degree (LL.M. / M.A. / M.Sc. or a Joint Degree). The programme provides students with an advanced understanding of the economic effects of divergent laws and prepares students for a professional career, for example, in public organizations, in multinational law firms or consultancy firms. Graduates are also well prepared for doctorate research in a Ph.D. programme such as the European Doctorate in Law and Economics (EDLE). The EMLE has been recognized by the European Commission as an Erasmus + Programme of "outstanding academic quality". The Erasmus + label allows the EMLE programme to annually grant a substantial number of scholarships (including several full scholarships to students from “Partner Countries”). For law students, the knowledge of the specific regulations of their home country is too narrow a base for counseling firms that are active in international trade. Additionally, a familiarity with the economic effects of legal rules has become indispensable for understanding their clients' commercial needs. Similarly, economics students will profit from an accurate understanding of the institutional legal framework of market economies. For both lawyers and economists, knowledge of the other discipline and international contacts are crucial for a successful future career. The EMLE programme is the institutional response to these challenges.... [-]

The Europa-Institut at Saarland University offers a one year Master's program in European and International Law with six modules: Module 1: European Integration and Modules 2-6 with the study units European Economic Law, Foreign Trade and Investment, International Dispute Resolution, European and International Protection of Human Rights and IT Law (from Winter Semester 2019/2020 on, initially only in German).

Example: Specialization in European Economic Law

The study unit comprises various areas of law which are of fundamental importance not only in Europe but in a global perspective, with regard to both economic and legal practice. The courses convey sound knowledge of the general framework that characterizes economic activity in the European Union (the Economic and Monetary Union, Banking Law and European Tax Law). Students may also deepen their knowledge of more particular regulations which economic activities in the EU might be subject to (e.g. European Competition Law, Economic and Competition Policy) or that potentially accompany such activities (e.g. Intellectual Property Law). The challenges of economic globalization are taken into account in courses in which the subject matter extends beyond EU borders. In addition, there are numerous case studies offered as part of the study unit which allow students to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. Moreover, students have the opportunity to focus on European Management.... [-]

Overview

Antitrust laws directly impact the globalization of businesses and the complexities of the international economy. Antitrust lawyers must engage with rapidly changing regulations and global issues. The LLM in Global Antitrust Law & Economics provides students with an advanced understanding of the laws that regulate the process of business competition and the economic analysis relevant to understanding modern antitrust adjudication.

With the growing demand in the U.S. and abroad for antitrust lawyers who can facilitate and manage mergers and acquisitions on national and international levels, determine compliance with economic laws of foreign governments, and support the efforts of law firms and corporations, Scalia Law’s LLM is designed to meet that demand....
